Golden, cheesy, crispy little bites of heaven. That’s what we’re working with today. Tirokroketes, or Greek Cheese Balls, are one of those appetizers you didn’t know you needed until you try them. Think creamy feta, a hint of herby goodness, and that glorious crunchy exterior. Perfect for a cozy dinner party or just snacking your way through life.
The best part? They’re super customizable. No kefalotyri? No problem. Parmesan works like a charm. Plus, they’re made for dipping. Tzatziki? Yes, please. A little drizzle of honey? Unreal. You do you.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups crumbled feta cheese
- 1 cup grated kefalotyri (or Parmesan for an easy swap)
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
- 1 tablespoon fresh dill, chopped
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup breadcrumbs (and a bit more for coating)
- Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions:
- In a bowl, combine feta, kefalotyri, egg, parsley, dill, and black pepper.
- Stir until it’s creamy and dreamy.
- Gradually add the flour and breadcrumbs until the mixture feels roll-able (technical term). Chill for 30 minutes.
- Roll the cheese mixture into little balls (about walnut-sized) and coat them in breadcrumbs for that next-level crunch.
- Chill again for 10 minutes.
- Heat up a good inch of oil in a skillet until it’s around 350°F.
- Fry the cheese balls in batches until they’re golden and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per batch.
- Drain on paper towels and serve warm.
- Tzatziki or honey are highly encouraged.
